Modern tourism is characterized by many revolutions of various fields. Firstly, the advance of technology and more specifically the internet have changed the way of planning, booking and living tourism experiences forever. People can book accommodation online while at the same time social media affect their choice of destinations and activities. Current tourism trends also include the demand for more personalized experiences that promote the interference with the local community and the opportunities for wellness and self-growth. It can be observed that new concepts have been freshly introduced such as solo traveling and digital nomadism. One of the main characteristics of modern-age tourism is also the efforts towards sustainability in tourism. Since there is a high rise of awareness globally about the environmental impact of tourism, there are strategies followed that seek to reduce its environmental footprint and adopt practices of tourism that consider the sustainability of the natural resources, fighting against pollution and overexploitation in the name of profit (Mowforth & Munt, 2015).
