2.3.2. Infrastructure and capacity inventory

Through the Infrastructure and capacity inventory assessment, the destination team evaluates the capacity of the destination or the availability of infrastructure to handle tourists. The questions to be considered here are:

  • What needs to be done before sustainable tourism begins?
  • Would tourists have high-quality food, lodging, and transportation?
  • Do local attractions need refurbishment?
  • How many tourists can the destination receive without disruption or destroying resources?
  • Is there enough fresh water?
  • Can the destination handle the sewage outflow from local hotels and other lodging facilities?

Facilitate a group discussion on these key areas:

  1. Transportation and accessibility
  2. Public services (electricity, water, sewage, policy, hospitals etc.)
  3. Environmental quality (air, water, land quality, etc.)
